Behind the scenes: Penny & Aman’s stunning wedding in the Oxfordshire countryside

I had the most wonderful weekend recently, delivering and setting up Penny & Aman’s contemporary wedding cake at the beautiful Primrose Hill Farm, situated on the edge of the Cotswolds. I always love experiencing new venues and this one stunning! Located just outside the village of Banbury, Primrose Hill Farm is an idyllic countryside location that combines rural charm with a number of contemporary spaces including barn conversions, Grade II Listed Buildings, courtyards, orchards and gardens, making it a beautifully unique wedding venue.

When I arrived at Primrose, the guests were enjoying their cocktail hour on the lawn outside of the dining barn, enjoying the panoramic views of the Cotswolds. Delicious canapés and oysters were being served with jazz music entertaining the guests.

Inside the dining barn, the reception meal set-up had been prepared – long trestle tables were covered with luxurious linen, low, delicate floral arrangements were dotted along the tables, tall blush pink candles were ready to set a soft romantic tone and a delicate silk ribbon in pistachio green sat at each place setting to add to the natural and neutral colour palette.

The couple opted for a 2 tier, contemporary cake design, which worked so well in this rural but modern space. Delicate sugarpaste and wafer paper ruffles covered the bottom tier and crept up the top tier in white and blush pink tones. Delicate sugar flowers protruded from various areas around the cake to add a softness to the design. The cake stood on a glass candelabra stand at the end of the dining barn for all of the guests to view and admire during their reception dinner.

Penny & Aman cut their cake prior to their evening reception commencing so their guests enjoyed their cake during the evening buffet. They treated their guests to the following flavours:

  • Coconut, Passionfruit & Lime: A coconut sponge infused with lime, zesty passionfruit curd and lime Swiss meringue buttercream
  • Chocolate Praline Crunch: Chocolate mud cake with hazelnut pieces, a chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream with crushed hazelnut praline.
