As a luxury wedding cake designer based just outside of London, covering the city, Home Counties and Oxfordshire/The Cotswolds, I love creating designs that will leave a lasting impression on my couples and their guests. I’m always seeking that ‘WOW’ reaction! And it can be achieved in so many ways…

- Wow your guests with height
I love nothing more than adding height to my designs – it creates such an impact! If you’re catering for smaller numbers, you can still have a tall cake! I can add ‘faux’ tiers to your design to maximise the drama without you having lots of cake leftover (although this wouldn’t be a bad problem to have, right?!). This 10 tier cake from a creative shoot at Somerley House may be a little too big for most but it certainly brings the drama!

2. Wow your guests with minimalism
Impactful designs don’t have to be fussy – scaling a design back and having intentional details can often be more impactful than throwing everything at a design, like these examples below, inspired by the A Cake Story ‘The Soul’ design.

3. Wow your guests with illusion (floating)
Bring a touch of magic to your wedding cake and leave your guests pondering ‘how is that possible?’ with the use of ‘floating’ tiers

4. Wow your guests with texture
One of my favourite design features to add to a cake is texture – your guests will literally want to touch and feel these kinds of cakes (although I would kindly request that they don’t :)). It could be ruffles that form romantic rose shapes, sugar shards to give the illusion of movement or wafer paper ruffles to give a fabric effect.

5. Wow your guests with colour
If you want to go really bold and buck the traditional ‘white’ cake trend, add dramatic colour to your cake design. It will really catch your guests eye and make sure your cake doesn’t get missed.

6. Wow your guests with sugar flowers
For a softer and more feminine look, but equally as impactful, why not opt for sugar flowers? Your guests will be amazed when they realise your cake flowers are made from sugar and you’ll be left with a beautiful keepsake after your wedding.

7. Wow your guests with styling and placement
Where you position your cake and style the area is so important. The right placement and styling can really ‘frame’ your cake and give it the centre stage it deserves! There could be a beautiful area in your venue for your cake to be positioned, you could repurpose your ceremony florals or position your cake outside for example. Check out the images below for inspiration on styling your cake.

If you’re looking to ‘wow’ your guests with your wedding cake, consider the above options in order to achieve this. And I’d love to hear from you if you’d like to work with me for your wedding cake!
