As much as I adore making beautiful, contemporary wedding cakes for ‘real’ couples, I also adore being involved in styled photoshoots. A styled shoot provides the opportunity for creative minds to express themselves through their art, whatever medium or form that may take. It also allows creative wedding business owners to how engaged couples ideas and inspiration that they may not have considered.
So when I get a call from Hannah of By Hannah Baskett (wedding stylist extraordinare!), i jump at the chance to be involved. Hannah styles beautiful weddings and is all about the little details that create a big impact. And this shoot at The Grange in Somerset was no different with Hannah styling multiple ‘looks’ throughout the day to show engaged couples various options from elegant and romantic to bright and bold to sophisticated and understated.
The first ‘look’ to be styled was an elegant and natural setting with beautiful white florals and lush foliage. Opulent gold cutlery and statement charge plates framed each place setting with gold rimmed wine glass and a mix of tall and petite candles adding to the romantic feel.
I designed a contemporary white wedding cake to compliment Hannah’s styling – a small two-tier design to reflect the intimate 6 person setting. Each tier had a textured ‘wraparound’ effect to add a contemporary feel with the cake taking its place at the head of the table.
The second look saw a more brighter, vibrant colour palette with a rich blue table cloth and multiple floral arrangements with peaches, pinks and blue seasonal flowers. The cake took centre stage in the setting, mounted on a tall acrylic plinth. The talented Sarah from The Way to Bloom create da stunning floral meadow around the base of the cake, framing it beautifully.
The final look was beautifully soft and feminine with delicate pastel shades of peach, cream and lilac. A beautiful basket, bursting with florals stood at the end of the table setting with smaller, more delicate arrangements dotted along the centre of the table as well as tall lilac candles added a softness to the setting.
Sarah of The Way to Bloom treated my cake to another stunning floral display – it stood proud on a vintage dresser with gorgeous florals seeming to be growing out from the draws, surrounding the cake, create a real wow-factor focal point.
In addition to the cake for this look, I also created some delicate macarons, hand-painted with floral details to compliment the overall styling. These sweet treats make an ideal personalised and delicious gift for wedding guests.
