I first met Laura & Grant at a wedding fair in 2021, where they were looking for a cake designer to make their wedding cake for their 2022 wedding at The Post Barn in Berkshire. After attending several of their friend’s weddings, they were keen to book a venue that they hadn’t been to before and make their day really personal to them.
They chose The Post Barn in Newbury, which is a newly renovated modern barn set in beautiful Berkshire countryside with an abundance of outdoor space, making this venue perfect for this fun couple to host their wedding.
I arrived to set up their cake on the morning of their wedding and as always, there was the useful buzz of excitement and activity. The Barn was being set for a beautiful ceremony with the sun lighting up the room through the vast glass wall at the end of the barn where the brides friend was installing a stunning floral arch. There were so many personal touches from the table plan featuring the couple’s beloved cats to the basket of flip flops placed outside of the bathroom for the ladies to change into for dancing later that evening.
Once I had set up the couples cake, I popped over to the Bridal Suite to say hello to the Bride. The excitement was infectious! Laura and her bridesmaids were all looking beautiful having had their hair and make up done by………….. Laura’s stunning dress from Confetti Bridal was hanging by the full length mirror, ready to worn and the lovely Stephanie from Summers Photography was busy capturing captured all of the details and moments so beautifully.
Laura & Grant had chosen a teal and pale pink colour theme for their wedding and wanted to incorporate this into their wedding cake design. They loved a previous design of mine that they’d seen featuring a ruffled sugarpaste tier and loved the idea of sugar flowers. So we came up with a design that featured a ruffled tier included a statement peony sugar flower, incorporating subtle teal and blush pink tones into the design. Following their tasting consultation, they chose raspberry & white chocolate, chocolate & salted caramel and lemon & elderflower for their cake flavours.
Laura and Grant, thank you for choosing me to make your wedding cake; it was an absolute pleasure getting to know you both and I can’t thank you enough for these incredibly kind words:
“We first met Louise at a wedding fair. We were impressed by the model cakes she had on her stand, in particular one design with ruffles. We took away a couple of samples and tried them straight away – we couldn’t believe how tasty and moist the flavours were (so we went back for more!)
We met Louise to discuss our wedding cake design. She was so friendly and seamlessly wove her and our ideas together to come up with a beautiful design. One of our wedding colours was teal and she went above and beyond to design a teal colour to match the colour scheme.
We found it tricky to decide on cake flavours- we would have needed a 5 tier cake to have all the flavours we wanted! We specially asked our wedding venue not to cut the entire cake- I would have been gutted not to have had a slice of each tier!
We received so many compliments on both the look and taste of our cake. We are so pleased we chose Louise to be part of our special day – what a friendly, kind and talented baker! “
