As one of the highlight weddings of this year or me so far, I’m so excited to share the details of Danielle and Treveisha’s special day. I first met the couple’s planner, Dannielle at a venue showcase and it was immediately clear that the couple had a very clear vision of what they wanted for their wedding day and they felt the style of my cakes really complimented this. They were opting for a classic colour palette of black and white with neutral tones and hints of rose metallic. And the wedding was taking place at the beautiful Rivervale Barn in Hampshire, a venue very local to me.
Danielle and Treveisha were keen to have a contemporary square cake and loved some of the offset square designs they had seen in my gallery. They loved the idea of including some textural elements and had seen inspiration in designs that featured wafer paper sails.
Following an online consultation with the couple, I sketched up some cake design options for them and, after taking elements from each that they loved, I came up with a 3-tier square design with each tier being slightly offset to give a really contemporary feel. Each tier featured marble and stone effect texturing in neutral tones. To soften the design slightly, I added wafer and sugar paper sails to give more texture and movement. Hints of rose gold metallic were also added to the design to drawn in their wedding colours. One of the brides has a gluten intolerance and didn’t want the risk of contamination from other non-gluten free tiers. So, we came up with the solution that the top tier of their cake would be gluten free and the other tiers would be ‘dummy’ tiers. Their guests would then be served, individual, beautifully packaged portions of cake that they could enjoy during the evening reception, or take home with them.
I sent Danielle and Treveisha one of my luxury sample boxes before their online consultation, so they had the opportunity to sample some flavours before we met. Because I was catering for a gluten intolerance, half of the samples were gluten free. The couple opted for a gluten free Victoria sandwich for the top tier of their cake and Raspberry & White Chocolate for their guests to enjoy.
When I arrived at Rivervale Barn on the day of the wedding, there was the buzz of pre-wedding activity. The couples planner, Dannielle was busy adding all of the little details from the bespoke table numbers, chiffon chair runners with pearl brouches to the personal pictures of the couple. The wonderful team at Seventh Heaven were creating floristry magic the ceremony room with giant urns filled with white flowers and an abundance of foliage at the entrance. Gorgeous displays continued down the aisle, mounted on modern, clear plinth stands and a stunning floral arch stood at the end of the aisle to frame the couple as they said their vows.
Their contemporary wedding cake was set up next to the top table, sitting proudly on a tall, clear plinth to compliment the modern design. This was softened with chiffon raping and the additional of candles and petals on the floor surrounding the cake.
Danielle and Treveisha’s special day was a joy to be part of, it was a pleasure and a ppriveledge to make their cake for them and play a small part in their special day.
