Today I’m going to discuss the advantages of a bespoke wedding cake. What do I mean by bespoke? A bespoke wedding cake for me is a cake that has been specifically designed by a cake designer based on the theme and styling elements of a couples wedding and any specific requests or design elements they have specified for their cake. What a bespoke wedding cake isn’t is a ‘copy’ of someone else’s cake.
As a cake designer who specialises in countryside mansion house / Stately home weddings in the Home Counties, my bespoke designs work beautifully in these surroundings and here’s why:
1. Bespoke cake design allows a cake designer to style a cake that reflects you as a couple. Whether that be your favourite flavours, you favourite flowers or colours or your love of a particular season. An experienced cake designer will get to know you as a couple and your aspirations for your wedding day and aim to design a cake that perfectly reflects this.
2. I think I speak for all cake designers that specialise in one-off designs when I say – we love nothing more than a couple who approach us with an open mind when it comes to their wedding cake! Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to know what you like and don’t like but if you love the style of the cake designer you approach, let them unleash their creativity and design a one-off work of edible art for you! Afterall, this is what you are paying for when you book a bespoke cake designer – their expertise, creativity and experience.
3. As opposed to-pre selecting a cake design you have found online or Pinterest for example, where the design may not totally fit your theme, a bespoke design gives you the opportunity to perfectly tie in your wedding theme, colours, the style of your venue and the overall aesthetics of your wedding day. So my advice if you’re looking for a one-off cake design is to use resources like Pinterest for inspiration but not to find the exact cake you’d like.
4. Quite simply, just like you and your wedding, a bespoke cake design will be unique to you. Enough said.
Just to be clear, I’m not for a second saying there’s anything wrong with having a very fixed idea of what you want your wedding cake to look like but perhaps make the most of your cake designers experience and skills in order to make sure your cake reflects you and your wedding theme.
